Because we don't have a coyote subforum I guess it has to go here.

Hunted just two stands with a buddy last night. He had a friend that wanted to tag along on a hunt to see if he wanted to take the money leap into night hunting. We let him watch it all through my spare scanner. For some reason, everytime we take a someone new it works out. First stand we had one coming across the field at a trot within a couple minutes of the first howl. We let him get to about 60 yards and doubletapped him. Second stand was about the same. Played the first howl and had one pop out from the pond dam before I could hit mute on the remote. As we discussed calling him in closer or shooting him at 150 another one joined him. We brought them in another 30 yards then killed them. As we were debating packing it up then, the last one started booger barking from the next field over. A couple challenge barks and a fight and he barked his way in to die while he sniffed his buddy. I know it's deer season, but this has been a great few weeks of calling. While we shot the first yote there was a buck chasing does around 200 yards from us. They never left the field.

Had another good run last night. Solo shooting since my buddy lost zero on his thermal because he wanted to play with the zeroing profiles before we called. Two stands, 5 coyotes. Called in 7 at one time on the first stand and killed 2. Second stand I killed a single in front then a single behind us. Called another pair in after that and killed the lead but lost the second one in the fog. We couldn't see the truck from 20 yards away by the end of the night. Only picked up 4 that night because a momma cow was standing over one and getting a bit snotty. Landowner grabbed him this morning.

First off its just easier at night. I also get to play with the night vision and lasers and thermal and I'm just a kid who liked his toys. Secondly, I've got two young kids so it's nice to be able to spend time with them after work, put them to bed, and then sneak out for a couple hours and hunt. Let's me go as much as I want without putting more of a burden on my wife.

These are fantastic reasons.

The reason I ask, theres a younger kid who is a coyote killing machine. Not in SC but another part of the country, and I wont dare say. He is around a big area where I hunt geese and I run into him every so often. He is a fantastic dude and just a stand up kid. Lots of farmers know him and love him, so it kind of shocked me when he gave the answer he did. One morning, crossed paths, and his truck is squatting with the amount of dogs he had in the bed of the truck. Says he tied his record for the most killed in a night (it was like 28 - 30). Told him to run out there on and kill one more. He giggled and said the sun was coming up and he didnt mess around with coyotes during day light. Asked him the same question I asked you..... he said "have to ask permission during the day".

Shocked.... it set in.... farmers who are in bed and hunters who are very careful with night vision and suppressors can be super duper sneaky and hunt private land without anyone knowing. Made me really start to wonder how much of that was going on. More shocked, I originally met this kid because one of the farmers who lets me hunt his property, introduced me to the kind young man. The farmer also runs a deer processing side business. He told me this kid was well known in the area for killing all these coyotes. So it made me wonder how sneaky he had to be, but this was his answer and I didnt question his doings.

Five Oh, what kind of tripod and caller are you using? I have an IRAY rh50 and like it alot. Using the AGM 640 for scanning. That gun is damn heavy with the thermal. I have the expensive stuff out of the way.

I'm using a Leofoto 362 inverted tripod and the MH60 ball head. Not bad for a budget tripod but I'll eventually go to a RRS anvil head and then tripod as we'll down the road. Caller is a Foxpro x24, loaded from MFK. I was using the family bust up sounds last night,and a little bay bee cottontail. I'm shooting with an iray rico 35 and the finder 35v2 to scan. Looking through a 640 makes me want to upgrade my scope bad, but I can't justify the money while this one works fine.
