The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it. -Thomas Jefferson
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
2 forms in a year? You lost me, thought once you did it it was done
In order to take a Short Barrel Rifle out of state you have to file paperwork asking for approval. And from what understand you have to be specific on where you’re going with it, ie an address. I don’t believe you can just say traveling through North Carolina to get some BBQ. Hopefully the experts will correct me if I’m wrong.
ahh yeah ok, knew that part, thanks

I went the pistol route for traveling out of state.
If you buy a registered SBR from a dealer, then there is no engraving needed. It's already a SBR and you pay the $200 transfer tax when you purchase it.
If one is "manufactured" by an individual (barrel chopped, or rebarreled, or swapping a braced pistol to a stock, etc) then the "end user" is technically manufacturing a SBR. When one does so, the "manufacturer" (that being you or your legal entity -- Trust or LLC) must engrave the receiver with the information. Either first & last name + city & state, or the name of the Trust or the name of the LLC.
Basically, it's your own "rollmark."

Getting it engraved is pretty easy. I sent mine to Tarheel State Armory and they laser engraved it in micro font and had it back in 3 days. I don't remember the cost but it was insignificant.
