Sad times but there may be some good opportunities coming down the pipe just have to wait and see.
I can remember when Edgefield had a meat packing plant and half a dozen sawmills and planer mills. You could get your own pigs and cows processed and have your own lumber milled. It seems like that would be feasible to come around again.
How in the fuck do we let the penal colony get ahead of us? All of our leaders should be wards of the penal system.
We do nothing to keep our long term industry but we spread our legs for anyone wanting to move here. It makes no sense. I am not saying the state could force IP to stay but they definitely should be vocal and trying to keep them.

The question is... Are the mills closing due to reduction in demand or overseas competition (due to excessive regulations, unfair trade relationships, etc)? Would seriously like to hear some real facts on this because I am not educated enough on this specific topic to understand which is taking place (or could be both).
With the Summerville mill closing and now this is going to make it tough to sell any wood. Prices have been tanking for a few years as well. Heard rumors of a new mill in Oburg area but that will take a while
