Need a guide...

Figured I'd ask here before going the Google route. Might be longshot, but I'll be flying in to Boise on the 19th but have a gap that allows me to hopefully squeeze in a duck hunt on Sunday Oct 20th. Might have another day or two later in the week also.

Anyone know a guide in that neck of the woods who can accommodate?

What is it that you want to hunt? There's a broad scope of things out there and most of the ones I know are chasing elk at the moment.

ETA. Find an outfitter to take you to shoot pigeons at a feedlot. It is like doves down south but in an English speaking country.

Everyone was booked, unfortunately. Might try a little freelance hunt at a local WMA but need to do more research.

This place was interesting, at least from a ducks hunter's perspective. Found a Pile of mallards with a few Canada Geese mixed in sitting on this one little spot that I noticed gobs of ducks working while we drove along the interstate to an airfield our F-15s were using. And wouldn't ya know, it's on an Indian Reservation. Did the research and they do allow us non-injun folk to hunt it, but the season-long non-res permit was over $500 with no other options for like a 1 weeker. That was a little more money than I was willing to spend, especially to shoot ducks that I didn't have time to clean/eat and I certainly wasn't prepared/equipped to ship them home.

The one consolation was there was a shooting club nearby that I was able to get to on multiple days. Yesterday they had a big benefit shoot for a local school's shooting club. Had an absolute blast. Won 2 of the 5 buddy shoots I participated in, both ended with a shoot off. Then did an Annie Oakley that I finished 4th in out of a crowd of 20+ shooters. Think I had more fun doing that than I would've shooting a limit of mallards, so guess it kinda worked out.

I can understand that. Only problem I had when hunting Walpole Island on my first ever trip to Canada with an Indian guide was not shitting my pants when it started to get light and seeing the entire hole was corned to hell and back. Evidently migratory and any other games laws don’t apply on the Rez. At least that’s what my guy said. I’ll never forget as it started to get light and I noticed the bottom appeared to be glowing white in front of me. Hen a little more light, and I was like HOLY SHIT is all that corn? Dude says YEAH, You got to feed your duck holes eh if you wanna shoot ducks!!

It was a really neat little hole. Been a long time since I've seen that many ducks piled up in one spot like that. All I really needed was waders and non-tox shells, brought my shotgun with me.

I thought about it all l real hard, but last thing I wanted to take a chance on was going to injun jail while on official military business cause the local injun-warden busts me for something stupid.

Also, I had more questions that I just have time to flesh out. Like if I got the permit to hunt the Rez did I need all the Idaho state licenses, permits, etc as well? My ignorance and being mal-equipped led to just say, ya know it ain't worth chancing.

Only real way into the hole was to park just off the shoulder of the road and walk across a railroad bed too, so there's that. I know law enforcement for the railroad don't mess around. Just too many risks in my book. Woulda been epic though.
