Anyone selling a well bred, healthy, good puppy for less than 2k is not making much money. Cost of all the health and genetic testing, the cost of years of training boarding and owning the bitch and the sire, stud fees, the cost of puppy whelping and care for 8weeks, the cost of food, the cost of multiple visits for a litter, the cost of the breeders time to market and deal with buyers, the list goes on and on. I had a litter of 8 recently. I added it all up in the end; I had almost 6k in "hard" and "soft" costs.
Of course you could find a cheaper one and that puppy dang well could turn out to be a healthy and well mannered dog, but its a gamble you've got to decide for yourself.
If you want to stack the cards in your favor in the long run for a healthy well bred dog, spend the money up front, it will be by far the least expensive expense in the lifetime of the dog.
