Edit, I must have took them off.. Chess and I carried the same rifle through highschool, I used mine mainly cutting off dog drives with Boykin Hunt Club.

I will get a photo of me with a couple sookies I blasted with my 7600 .270. I had a Leupold 4x on her with standard base/ rings. It was a pretty damn good shooting rifle. Killed a pile of deer with her. It was 1987 or so, cuz I'm wearing Mossy Oak original Bottomland..

Those Remington semi auto rifles with the see thru rings were the big thing back in the day. Not so much love for them from the new guys today, but they don't know what they don't know.
My first deer rifle was a borrowed 742 Woodmaster in 30-06 which led me to buy a 7400 in 30-06. Killed a pile of deer with those guns. A perfect rifle to have when walking up on a group of hogs, you can empty a mag pretty quick with one of those guns.
I finally moved up to a Remington 700 and remounted the scope on the 7400 with lower rings and gave it to my son a few years back.

Hoping to get one of my kids to take one down with this old Woodmaster. That would be 4 generations of kills with it

Another throwback to the good old days. Not too many folks use a compass anymore opting for smart phones instead.
First thing when I get dressed in the morning, I hang a compass around my neck and drop it in behind my T shirt. 40+ years later, I still the use it every time I head into the woods. The moment I pull up to my hunting spot I'll take a back bearing to the road before I pull my rifle out of the case.

Climbed many of trees with my Baker when they first came out with my Marlin 30-30 and peep thru sites.
I also watched a friend of mine climbing with a Baker using the hands on attachment. It was like a chin up bar that extended away from the tree. He was climbing on a damp morning and fell backwards breaking his neck. He spent many months in traction and a halo brace.
    Never used my Baker again.

Here's the real question; anyone ever kill a deer out of one?
    Several

Mine had the hand climber. Back when I could do pull-ups.

I also have a friend who killed a nice 9 point from one - after a 180 grain Corelokt from his Remington 742 30-06 put a hole in his boot and neatly removed his big toe. Shoulda heard that morning silence breaker... the boom of the rifle followed by some rather loud screaming. By the time we got to him, he had already got to the ground. He had those shitty over/under see through scope mounts that folks liked back in the day. He used the scope on a 20 yard shot and his foot ( hanging off the platform of course) was in the line of fire ( but not the line of sight).
Had the see through scope base with a Redfield Wide View scope. Still have the scope. The optics are terrible by todays standard

With the requisite Tasco World Class. Man we killed a pile of deer with that set up.

That pump rifle and 130 grain Silvertips ( the original version) fed my family for a lot of winters…
