If you are like me you grew up hearing "NEVER dry fire a weapon!" It was pounded into me from childhood. It was always seen as a mistake and never as a training tool. I first ran into dry fire as a training tool in the Navy and it threw me for a loop. I dry fire practice with my EDC often. I'm a little embarrassed it took me this long to try it with the kids. We're not balancing coins on the barrel and doing flutter kicks as punishment if the coin falls at the shot yet. But I am very pleased at what a few sessions produced. The difference in their confidence was night and day. And it helped them build familiarity with their weapon in a non stressful situation, taught them more about gun safety etc. Introduce it and let me know how it goes.

My kids killed there first couple of deer with a .243 and I never found a bullet that left a blood trail. Congrats to the kids and their kills. I get more enjoyment watching mine than I do killing anything and I’m sure it’s the same for you.

    Great story and awesome job!

Try the 95gr NBT. It does a good job in a .243 (I get pass thrus on high shoulder shots, DRT) and as always with Nosler, pinpoint accurate.

Dryfire is key. Good job again - sounds like you have put a good system in place.
The dryfire is bad mantra is a holdover from rimfire rifles. In that case it IS bad. But not so in centerfires.

Way to go boys!! I share the same sentiments on the dry firing. My three have NEVER shot their rifles on the range. We dry fire practice only. No need in developing a flinch right out the gate.
