I’m not as old as a lot of you, but these are all 20 years old, or older. I had fun, but it would have been a lot more fun if I knew what I did now.

I like seeing the old pics. This is my first hog and first deer. I think the hog was killed in 77 and the deer in 78.

Not near as old as other pictures on here but this was 15 years ago. A buddy and I skipped school and hunted a wma a couple hours from home on opening day of bow season. We dragged that 200 pound buck across 400 yards of pluff mud and then bogged my dad's truck down to the frame. That is one deer I will never forget.

I was blessed to have been able to hunt the SNF in the early 80's. Deer were plentiful, I worked a job that allowed me to have 3-day weekends. I set up a permanent camp at Rocky Branch campground from October 1 to January 1 and was there every weekend.
The check station at Salem Crossroads was always something to see, sometimes there would be 15-20 nice bucks on the ground waiting to be checked.

    Squirrel Master got jokes.

I'm glad we never had check stations.........I like to keep my hunting private..........No bragging rights......No UU's & Ahh's from others.........I don't need or require a pat on the back for killing a deer.

You damn right, I used to love hanging out there. Some real monsters came in.

Yeah, that chest was pretty handy. I used it for years before we moved up to a camper.
Bottom drawer held hammer, hatchet, nails, bungees cords, twine, propane bottles, tent stakes, etc.
The middle drawer held pots, pans, knives, forks, spoons...
Top drawer held spices, tin foil, paper plates...

I still have the tent in the garage but haven't used it in years.
Those were great times drinking liquor all night and brushing my teeth in the morning and washing my mouth out with a half empty cup of melted ice and Jim Beam.
My wife will spread my ashes in the fire ring at camp when I'm gone.

Younger days starting out deer hunting used to go to the check station off hwy 9 just east of Lockhart. Just re-enforced the fact that there were really some deer in those woods.
