I saw one of those things somewhere. It had fangs like a pitchfork. I don’t think the venom is anything like the damn taipan that Darwin was playing with though.

I just laughed to myself thinking about how I must look whenever I kill a prairie rattler out here. I've killed ~10 on the roads here riding around at night looking for them. The first one I ever tried to kill was crossing the road, and I saw it slither into the grass once I got turned around and had my headlights on him. I remember easing up there with a shitty flashlight looking for him, and then it rattled. It was the first time I heard one rattle, and it touched something primal in me and sent my ass right back to the truck. Since that one, I've killed the ~10 on roads with a hi-standard 22 revolver with snake shot, and it always amazes me just how dead one shot from that stuff will make a snake. I guess I was used to what they did after you beat them to death with a paddle or shovel. I still step on their heads, grab their rattle, and hold them out like they are going to explode...all the while they are hanging there limp with blood dripping out of their noses. I just know the day I let my guard down, one of them is going to go Zombie on me.
