Shim that thing! Took mine out the box and shot 14 out of 100 on a sheet thing. Was ready to give it away. Rebel yell put the correct shim in it and bam, back in business..

We shot in the am Monday. Was nice. 9 guns. 12 bird limits. My oldest was the first out and on the worst stand. Birds were high as hell by the time they got to his end. Several I passed on he clobbered. I was on #7 when he walks up to rib me a little.

Tuesday I bushed some more corn and wheat/prozo/brown top.........Power line count count from the front porch indicates lots of birds still using the field.
And dang it.......I can't find my dove call.......It works well with stationary decoys...........One thing that did work good Saturday......Was a dove decoy on a spinning reel.......Cast the decoy over the line and reel it up to the wire. Lay spinning reel on the ground.........Easy flip off after hunt.

Today was rough. I shot at 4 birds. I'd normally not attempt such shots.

My kid got 4 outta 20ish. He took many crazy shots, too.

Birds were not flying & if they were, they were quite high.

How'd everybody do this weekend? I had to be in Charleston and wasn't able to hunt. Slow-going from what I heard, tho.

Probably shooting high. My SBE1 was crazy high until I shimmed it.

    The notorious high & left.

The season before last I didn't seem to have much of an issue. Last season, our hunts were slow, overall. I didn't shoot that great, and I finally put the gun on paper and WOW.

Opening day, I was totally in my head. I was trying to trigonometry for every bird. Needless to say, it wasn't working.

I installed a taller front sight to help me get under the birds a little better. I also have a shim kit coming in the mail. I got that, a new cheek-piece (mine is badly deteriorated), and a new butt-pad. Mine's in rough shape and about to fall off the gun.

Hopefully, once all that is installed, and can quit the math and hit birds again.

I used to be able to hit nearly anything with my old 870 that I grew up shooting. It's a travesty that I sold it...

The butt-pad is a factory replacement; mine is in rough shape and nearly falling off.
The cheek-piece is a factory replacement; mine's disintegrated and falling apart.

Neither of these "can be taken off."

The front sight...well, yes, I could remove it. However, I prefer to leave it in place.

well keep missing then. I dont care.

but I do care. I care a lot.

so go by an 870 for $250 and get your mojo back.
doves should not be missed repeatedly.
