....I just happened to witness the event. I was certain it had not been cocked previously, but I hoped for the best and pressed the safety off, all the while it was leaning against the corner of the porch railing....pulled the trigger and.....
Nothing....
So, as my wife sat off to my side, immersed in the antics of the resident hummingbirds buzzing around our porch, I slowly pulled the lever up, then eased it back down into "battery" without rousting the intruder from his new-found cavern, and slipped my finger into the trigger guard and gave er a yank!!!!
The resulting carnage was minimal but satisfying. My wife gave out a WTF shreik at the all too familiar sound of the Red Ryder going off without her consent , yellowjacket guts spread from the corner post, to the siding, then up and over my shoulder(never did find the body).
Then we continued to sit for another hour being harassed by dumbass yellowjackets that didn't want to crawl into the barrel of my Red Ryder bb gun....
