Clemson target LB Kamar Archie (6-1 215) of Princeton, N.J., on Friday announced a commitment to Rutgers. Michigan was his other finalist.

Clemson missed Thursday night on WR Samari Reed (6-2, 190) of Coconut Creek, Fla., who picked Mississippi over Clemson, Kentucky, Penn State and West Virginia. The Tigers have one receiver commitment in Juju Preston and will now focus on former Mississippi commitment Dillon Alfred. The Tigers offered him soon after his decommitment last month, and he is scheduled to attend their recruiting function on July 26.

Clemson also came up short in the recruiting battle for OT Hardy Watts (6-6, 285) of Brookline, Mass. The Tigers were up against a pair of Big Ten programs in Wisconsin and Michigan. Watts chose the Badgers.

The Tigers also missed on WR Cortez Mills of Homestead, Fla., when he committed to Oklahoma. He also had Florida, LSU and Nebraska as finalists.

Clemson also last week missed on a top cornerback target Sunday night when Gregory Thomas of Plantation, Fla., announced for Florida State.
