    Default Electric Reels

Are they acceptable for regular bottom-fishing (60-150' of water, not deep-dropping)? Thinking really hard about buying a setup. Curious to hear your thoughts.

Back in the days of the thunderstar and Carolina clipper a 6/0 electric senator was the deal. Shock the shit out of you from time to time but you could do a lot of damage quick! I’d use one today in a second.

    Over 100 makes more sense.

The new banax, tanacom and even saw a piscifun the other day.

Li batter pack on belt or plug into boat.

Only problem is records don't count if that's on your radar.

Had my buddy's son in the boat with us probably 10 years ago that caught a scamp over the state record but didn't count for him at 7yo because it was on a precision auto reel.

Not in 60-150’. Not even 200’. I’m running Seaborg 1200’s for everything in 350’-1000’ right now. They’ve worked great. I just sold my Tanacom 1200, it was slow compared to the Seaborg annd not nearly as smooth. Actually thinking hard on swapping those for LP’s soon. One of my crew is a glutton for punishment and is dropping jigs in everything to 750’ and hand cranking, he’s getting 1 out of 10 to the boat and there’s a lot of sharks with jewelry hanging out of their mouths now. Of course when the sharks get on you, you aren’t getting much to the boat, they love grouper, that’s for sure. We’ve had a lot of 10# grouper heads already.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Heck, thanks to SAFMC, you can’t keep record fish anyway. 43”, 34.6# Golden Tile on Saturday. State record is 28.32#. Third record book fish we couldn’t keep due to seasonal closures.

Serious question, I honestly have no idea. If you catch a record breaking fish on an electric reel, does it still count?

Not a chance in hell that fish would go anywhere but in my cooler. Nice catch.

Banax 1500 is pretty impressive for what it is, caught everything from a seabass to a sword on one.
A 50W Hooker next level. Haven't found out how it handles a sword yet but it will pull a 60lb wreckfish from 1600ft like its not even there.

Salty I hope you found a safe spot on the boat for that tile!

I’m a steward of our oceans. 3 of 4 are safe and sound, 4th one got eaten whole as I was getting ready to bring it on board for a safe release on the descending device.

Remember, there is no statute of limitations on wildlife crime in South Carolina. Not that anyone on here would ever break such a law...

I made some 6 hook rigs for the electrics and black belly rosies. Drop that far we bring them up by the dozen. Got a hole that's loaded up with some big ones.

C-Mor maps is like Livescope for deep dropping.
