    Default Clinton

My wife and I have an argument going on right now. Is Clinton, SC pronounced ‘ClinTen’ or ‘Clinnon’. I’m prepared to admit I’m wrong.

If you’re from there it’s Clinnon, if not Clinton.

I was with a guy from Germany on Thursday who knows, speaks and reads, fairly good English business language. He just move to Richmond, VA a couple of months back and he said one of the hardest things to do is listening to everyone different dialect to figure out what people are trying to say. He's blown away at how we cut syllables out of words and merge two words that don't go together to make one word, etc. He said he finds himself asking people to slow down and "talk regular English" a lot. It was pretty interesting conversation with him over the course of the day.

Don't get me started on Horry County. The locals twist themselves into a knot pronouncing it Oree.

I grew up 45 minutes from Clinton, hunted in the area a lot, and never knew or heard it pronounced Clinnon. Guess I’ll admit defeat on this one.

If you are from Clinton there is no T. If you are not from Clinton then there is a T.

“Duck hunting gives a man a chance to see the loneliest places …blinds washed by a rolling surf, blue and gold autumn marshes, …a rice field in the rain, flooded pin-oak forests or any remote river delta. In duck hunting the scene is as important as the shooting.” ~ Erwin Bauer, The Duck Hunter’s Bible, 1965

I remember a photo that made national news back when Bill Clinton was running for president. It was two road signs at the intersection on hwy 176 and 76. One pointed left and one pointed right. One said "Clinton" and the other said "Prosperity".
