I've had a primo L for over 10 years, and still cooking strong. I've replaced the gasket, and upgraded to the precision air control kit, that's it. Chose primo, as mentioned, not only because I felt the oval cooking area was a better use of space but also made right here in the USA (honestly no idea if this is still the case, but assume so?). Regularly cook for a family of 5 and occasionally larger groups. If I were to cook more often for larger than 5-7, I'd opt for the XL.

Why not just buy a pellet grill then?

No where near the same for lots of reasons.

I love my BGE, but it is the medium size, and I wish every time I use it that it was at least large. The effort to use it is virtually the same, and the ability to save the briquets after use really makes all but the largest the best way to go. MG

is the primo not round or something? i've never felt like this less of a man.
i cooked ribs on my large BGE this weekend. it worked.

i agree that anything less than a large is not as multifunctional.
i can do three butts at a time on mine.

The Primo is more of an oval shape. You’d understand why it’s a better surface if you saw one. It’s not a knock on the egg. It’s a tip of the hat to the Primo.
