    Default SC Disabled Vets...

Bust out those DD214s. If you have a total disability rating the government of SC will kindly stop charging you rent on the property you own and have already paid taxes on.

I thought this had already been the case for years. You ever look at the "Disabled Veteran" tag you see from time to time? You gotta be 100% disabled to get those and they don't have a renewal sticker due to not having to pay property taxes every annually.

One of my coworkers got 100% recently for injuries/conditions spanning a 20+yr career at the bomb dump. Now she comes to work every day as a contractor.

It's a strange system that I'll have to learn how to navigate before I retire from the military. Might be 3 year's might be 10... hadn't quite figured that out yet.

Time to time? I see them everywhere and usually on brand new, really nice vehicles. I've always thought its being taken advantage of. Sad if it is. Less money for the Vets that really need it.

I'm ok with disabled vets being allowed to drive "brand new, really nice" vehicles if they choose to buy them and make their payments.

Bottom line: The VA benefits summary letter must have the 100% disabled, totally and permanently disabled due to service connected disability.

Me to. I just hope the program isn't being abused.

There's no real abuse to it. If a vet gets 100% disability for injuries/conditions/health issues connected to all the work he/she did while serving (decided by the VA, and oh it's very difficult) he/she doesn't have to pay property taxes. If I had to guess, it's to get more retired vets to come to SC to call home. In that case, even without them paying property taxes it's a net gain for SC. For the record, there's 20 states total that waive property taxes for 100% disabled vets.

Of course, it's easy to have the perception that if someone drives a nice, new vehicle that they're "rich". Homey/Homegirl could likely be up to their eyeballs in debt.

The system absolutely gets abused, don’t get me started.

The Military has abused me for 12 years. I’ll retire in 8 and I promise to God I’m going to do my best for %100

Should every job have a certain amount of disability included? Construction workers, welders, farmers..... Don't get me wrong, I think guys that received injuries in direct action should get all the help we can give but should someone that blew out a knee walking to chow get it? It's a job, that was volunteered for. I've seen some comments by ex VA docs and it seems like there's a lot of folks that know exactly what to say.

Can someone claim PTSD, mental issues, knee problems, back problems and there be zero medical proof and still get it? Can you have injuries that just come along with getting older?

It’s not quite that easy. From what I’ve gathered there has to be medical proof. Where a lot of it comes from isn’t physical injuries, it’s burn pits, foam, and other chemicals.

Correct, you need to be going to the doctor with any ailments now, so its documented.
Back hurts from the gear you carry? feet hurt from the boots? Sinus bothering you? Vision blurry from the fires and smoke?
I can go on and on, but it just comes down to having it documented and in your medical file.
Have you seen any fires that gave you nightmares?
