    Default First Merriam

A buddy and I went out west for the first time and hunted Montana and South Dakota in the Black Hills. I managed to kill my first Merriam the first morning in Montana before we got beat up bad by bad weather. Rain, wind, and snow would plague us the rest of the trip. Overall it was an amazing experience and I will be back in the Black Hills next May. I killed the bird in the prettiest cottonwood river bottom you could ask for. It was everything I had in mind when I thought of my first Merriam. On the banks of a river out west with mallards landing on the river and a whole flock of Merriams in front of me. He was a stud limb hanging Merriam. I may kick myself later for not mounting him. Also saw a white bearded hen in Montana. IMG_7996.jpgIMG_7993.jpgIMG_7990.jpgIMG_8060.jpg

Weather has been abysmal out here minus a few good days sprinkled in. Congrats! That bearded white hen would not have made it much past that pic if I had run into her…well, she’d have made it to my taxidermist!

She was on private. We passed her driving down the road. She had a gobbler with her. I couldn’t have shot her. She was to pretty.
