Fish is pretty much correct but low birds at 50 mph are hard to stay on.

And sometimes you just have to make it rain.

“Blue-winged and green-winged teal, thought by many hunters to be the fastest ducks, are actually among the slowest, having a typical flight speed of only 30 mph.”

I shit you not, about 7 years ago.we had a wigeon about 20 yards up above us and my old buddy that can barely see turns to me and said watch this…closes his eyes and points the gun straight up and fires.the bird folded up but we couldnt reach it after it fell into the sawgrass.

I'm picking drakes if it's light enough to see. If not I'll be water swatting whichever ones look like drakes.
Living in Moncks Corner but looking forward to moving back to the West Coast in 2020 where there are more ducks and less duck hunters!! LOL
All this advice sounds great, but just practice shooting. Wing shooting success is a direct result of muscle memory and practice.

Every time I think ahead about shooting duck number 2, I miss duck number 1.

I’ll water swat my first shot if I have that option and follow up on the next 2. I’ve crippled a lot more birds in the air compared to a water swat , so in my eyes it’s ethical. Plus I’m out there to kill ducks. If you can get them to land, you truly have completed your job.

Focusing on a single bird in a 15+ bird flock is a challenge for every wing shooter... I mean flocks that are not falling in to the timber as Boozer mentioned.
As mentioned before, practicing is a game changer. Shooting often at this not covered in feathers helps.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

maybe it would behoove the OP not to think so hard about this....
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
I cringe hearing "we should have had a few more, but we missed".
Such a typical response when you ask someone how many they shot. Especially, in areas where the shot opportunities are few and far between. Nothing, I mean nothing, is more miserable than launching at 0330, doing all that work and having a group of birds in the decoys and you only get 1 or none.
I shoot a o/u. I always have my 2nd bird picked out before I shoot the first. It is an extremely rare occurrence that I don't double on decoying birds.
All duck hunters spend a small fortune on the sport. Boats, dogs, travel, decoys, shells, waders etc etc.
Not very many spend any money on getting proficient on what I consider the absolute most important part of duck hunting. Accurate shooting.
Shooting 10 cases of shells a year should be your goal. Clays, starlings, pigeons, doves, whatever. Muscle memory.
i'm just messing with you. but its the old joke about how to make someone miss. just ask them if they keep both eyes open. they will think about it and forget the aiming part.
I dont overthink shooting. I like ducks to land. usually they are up before I swat em though.
i shoot. stuff dies. life goes on.
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
