What's your experience with times like this? My beaver swamp was frozen pretty good for the last few days. Do the ducks go to big water or creeks during this time and i can expect to see them back in my swamp with the warm temps coming tomorrow and later this week? Or did they haul ass south in advance of the freeze and arent coming back?

Last year, i remember it being super cold around christmas, but not sure it was for 4-5 days straight. Seems like that was the end of the wood ducks for me last year, but then mallards showed up shortly after that.

What does the brain trust think? Will they be back later this week or it's over? I am going to go regardless this weekend, so time will tell.

Our local wood ducks are usually back in SC by now, pair bonding and mating. I have had hens laying eggs in the past by now in years past.

So far I haven't seen one wooduck scoping out the boxes.

I lost about 200 woodies in my swamp this past week, hopefully something shows up this week.

I saw 10 ducks on the coast Saturday.

I saw around forty summerducks yesterday.. in a newly flooded area on our property. With one bald eagle flying bothering them. Everything else was locked up, and also figured the river crowd would have them up and flying.

This cold seems to have pushed out a lot of woodies here, too. We went from 500 on the roost to maybe 150. Pushed in some big ducks but pushed some out or around, too.
