So I rejoined a club after a few years since it was so close to home. About the beginning of October I put cameras out just to see what all was going on. Pretty soon I started getting a lot of decent pictures. The first pictures of this buck were actually in daylight. Back to back days about 8AM.

I sat the next morning and never saw him. The pictures switched from day to night and then as we got into the heat of the rut he disappeared for a couple weeks. I switched the camera to a stand at the very back of the property that nobody had even sat. After a couple days he was back on camera, but only at night. It was getting closer and closer to legal shooting time that he was showing up so I figured I’d give it a shot. I got in the stand one morning at 5:58 and my phone went off shortly after of him in front of it and watching me climb into the stand.

He showed up a couple more times in the middle of the night. Sunday night we got a text that the timber company was going to start clear cutting an area and thinking another area. 2 minutes later I got a picture of him back at that stand.

I sat this morning with no further pictures. At 7:15 a little 7 walked out on the path I walked in on. Watched him for about 5-10 minutes and he went back into the young pines. I looked down the shooting lane and saw a deer barely stick its head out. At about 125 yards I thought I could make out antlers. Pulled up the binoculars and watched as the head was down, but when it came up I knew immediately it was the one I had been seeing. I picked up the gun, a ruger ranch 223 I got through Steelin that was suppressed by the Omega 300 from Steelin as well.

He finally stepped out and the little pop gun dropped him right there with a high shoulder shot.
