I tore down an old barn on my place. Was constructed of heart pine.........The boards I didn't re-use made great kindling.........On the boards I did reuse. I had to use Cut Nails or predrill. If I tried to use round nails it would usually split.
Blunt the point to avoid the split.
I built a bunch of rabbit boxes out of old barn heart pine. Rabbits loved them.
