duckhunting stands alone as an outdoor discipline. It has a tang and spirit shared by no other sporta philosophy compounded of sleet, the winnow of unseen wings, and the reeks of marsh mud and wet wool. No other sport has so many theories, legends, casehardened disciples and treasured memories.
--John Madson, The Mallard, 1960
"Never trust a duck hunter who cares more about his success than his dog's."
Am I wrong or isn't this fairly light compared to what was said to new guys asking stuff like this when this place started? I miss the old days when we called each other names and threatened to beat each other's ass over duck hunting and football.....
You’re not wrong BCR
I'm just happy people are talking about ducks on a duck hunting website again, even if it is low key cyber scouting.

i do miss the good old days...
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
I gave up scouting once surface drive really started taking off. Really a waste of time honestly.

The old days are dead. In 2023, we must resist the urge to call somebody stupid for royally fucking up centuries of common English.
It matters not that we have a Thanksgiving season and a regular duck season with about a 2-3 week break in between, or “split” if you will.
Now we have a “first split” = Thanksgiving Week, and “Second Split” = Regular Duck Season.
The definitions of “split” and “season” are irrelevant. We are douches for thinking so.
Somehow we have to come to terms with the fact that despite ONE break in our duck season, we now live in a world where we have 2 “splits.” ………if that makes sense
That is all.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
