Found my first ones. Not good enough that I would make a special trip just for them but pretty cool to find them.

We've planted a mess of them on our place years back. They're huge. I haven't checked them yet this year, will now though.
The paw paws I know of are found near a creek. Do y’all find yours near water?
they everywhere and are yummy.
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
Neat, I've never found one but never really put any time into looking. Might have to give it a shot while I wait for the muscadines to ripen up in my area.
I make a good Paw Paw jelly - when I get some.

Just Damn.
I'll be getting a few this fall to plant.

No big ones in this patch I found a while back, but 15 pounds or so from tree shaking. I transplanted a bunch of wild root suckers to my yard last winter and have about 90% survival. Might buy a named variety or two and try my hand at grafting so I can get some big ones.
I researched how to identify paw paws and where to find them, then set out to search.
Yesterday evening I found a bunch, only one tree had fruit, and only 2 small ones. Neither were ripe.
This morning I found another nice bunch but no fruits. It's a bit disappointing but at least I'm able to find the trees.
How much longer would I be able to find ripe fruits in the upstate?

A few will be left the first week of September, but now is prime. Look for trees near openings with better sun and chance for early spring pollination for more fruits. The main issue is a lot of papaw patches are one mother tree with many root suckers growing up, so it is all genetically the same tree with no source for pollination
Dang, I need to get back out today and look then. I do want to see how they taste.
Am I ok to forage for wild edibles on Sunday or is that also a sin like hunting, but only on public land?
I've got another creek bottom in mind that I could probably find some more of these.

I've got a ½ mile stretch on the river loaded with them. Picked several handfuls yesterday
