Ever since the old manager retired, Bear Island has gone way down hill compared to what it used to be. Hunted Springfield 8 years ago and there were tons of birds with a lot of variety, just about every blind limited out. Got drawn for East a few years after that and had another great hunt with most blinds doing good as well. Got drawn again for Springfield for January 2021 hunt and it was terrible. We hardly saw any birds, only had one duck come in and it was just a passing GWT that I shot. Other blinds said they didn't see many birds and not very many were shot.

Wood ducks have been fun, I don’t have the desire to fight the crowds at the bay anymore so this will have to do.

There are several new GWs in the unit this year. Btw, I can only imagine what a shit show that landing was on Saturday.

Good deal. They're such good eating ducks too. Really it's all we have here in the upstate. I've killed a few mallards but that's rare. As for our lakes, more boats than ducks and I have no desire to fight that either. I like walk in swamps for wood ducks.

Unfortunately this is common. Have had a couple different game wardens scratching their heads over snipe and woodcocks.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

Agreed. Why don’t you start another thread asking what “shotty” everyone used on the “opener”
