I look forward to this annual youth hunt every year like a kid on Christmas! Having the opportunity to experience the beauty, wildlife and waterfowl that Bonneau Ferry WMA has to offer is a treat!
We had 5 kids on this hunt and 4 who had never been duck hunting before, the 5th young fella had some wing shooting experience under his belt and it showed! 10 ducks were harvested, eagles beat the dog or mentor to another 3 or 4 downed ducks and many shots were fired! Ringnecks, Wood Ducks and Greenwings were on tap for the kids and made for a challenging but action filled hunt!
HUGE shoutout to SCDNR for the quality management at Bonneau Ferry WMA as well as the SCDNR Take One Make One program! These young hunters get to experience deer, hog, squirrel, dove, duck and turkey hunts. If anyone is interested in becoming a mentor or has property they'd be willing to open up for a youth hunt don't hesitate to contact the SCDNR TOMO folks.
