How many pounds will I need for a 8' hide? Is there anything special I need to look for other than just plain table salt?

Guess it depends on what you want from final result but salt alone wont really cure it.

US Foods, "The Chef Store" should have it. Tractor Supply maybe mineral salt would probably do the trick too.
Salt and drain properly and resalt. The amount of salt depends on the size of the gator your harvest.

Tractor supply
wannabe nailed it.
Feed salt from a farm supply. $10 or $15 a 40lb bag.

pool salt...... $5-7 a 40 lb bag at sams or any hardware store
I would use Twenty Mule Team Boraxo instead of salt. It's next to the laundry detergent at your grocery store.
Sams Club has it.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home. -Tecumseh-
I'd be pissed if I owned a car wash and rolled up on someone pressure washing gator flesh all over my nice carwash yard.
