Is there an “off brand” that decent or go with one of the bigger name brands? Really not wanting to drop 600 but don’t want to be replacing it in a year either.

Stihl
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Stihl. Don’t pour crappy gas in and it will love you forever. The HT 101 is a machine.

Shindaiwa. Buy the combi system - m262 head and string trimmer attachment. Then buy the pole saw attachment. That way you are using the power head regularly when you use it as a weed eater, then you’ll have the pole saw when you need it.
Stihl isn’t the brand they were a decade ago. Shindaiwa, redmax, and echoX (not the box store echo line) are all better products IMO.
Stihl

I borrowed a Stihl to limb a few trees and now I want my own. They will make a mess to clean up in a hurry.
Funny you ask...you would not believe the amount of wood I cut up today with this...

I got it to cut around the hunt club - I wanted something that wasn't gas powered so I could use it and hunt without the gas/oil fumes in my deer hunting clothes. But, a giant maple tree feel on my son's property during the storms this week. I was able to almost completely de-limb it into fire-place sized chunks (except for the main trunk) on one battery charge. It's pretty amazing what I was able to do with a battery powered "chain saw".

Stihl ht131! Worth the extra 50 bucks over the 103 because of the old style metal head.
Put this in the Northern Tool search bar...
