My son caught these yesterday in my boat.
Dead end creek, 6 ft deep. All on same Mirrolure
He caught 11 all about this size

Very nice! 17MR?
We switched to the 27MR about a year ago and catch bigger fish
Said he saw a gator on a bank that may have gone 13 or 14ft
Largest he has ever seen and we have seen many hundreds in this area
over our lifetime
NC ?
Nice!
I ain't had a trout to eat in years. We used to burn them things a new one when I lived in GC

It’s only because the weather warmed up and they all came back to life from when they all died because it was cold.
One of the best trout fall, winter and springs I have seen in many years
and I have been fishing for them for a long long time. The larger ones are females
and we usually release them. Two over 6 lbs same day two weeks ago.
Most go their whole life not catching one over 6 lbs
Pretty fish... I’ve asked numerous biologists and fishermen in the Lowcountry just why we don’t encounter many of the larger trout when NC, and Fla both have larger fish more consistently. I have spoken to many charter captains too that will attest to this same observation
I’ve caught more trout over 5lbs in my life that I can put a number on. They are normally in the same places year after year.
ETA: I fish Charleston Area. Rarely go south of Stono river and have never fished above dewees inlet

Same creek, my boat, same Mirrolure this week.
We culled 4.5 and 5lb trout a few days this winter
Very good year and the live bait is already in the creeks.
New project underway right now; setting the Wave Runner up for Cobia,

Yeah...I’ve caught some studs too, and don’t doubt you, but NO ONE catches the quality of fish NC does. I’ve got a buddy in Ocean Isle that catches over a dozen 9+ every year... that fish doesn’t exist here in the numbers with exception to saltwater impoundments

I would like to see some science on the why ....

Our estuaries are more of a hatchery. It’s a very healthy nutrient rich ecosystem full of plankton and such for larvae to feed on. Maybe it’s the water clarity? I know trout prefer clean water. Maybe it’s population overall that keeps them smaller. We have a ton of fish inshore. Although we have ton of baitfish too! I’d like to know why also
