So in 2014 GM decided to put a in line trans cooler thermostat. The thermostat doesn’t open until trans fluid reach 180 degrees F. Your average person doesn’t scroll through the cluster to monitor the trans fluid temps. Sooooo if this thermostat sticks closed the trans fluid never circulates through transmission to cool it. The theory is make trans get warmer quicker which will warm engine quicker and meet emissions faster. If this thermostat sticks closed, you eventually burn up the transmission.
So for “routine” maintenance we’ll replace thermostat for 325.00 or for 275.00 I’ll bypass the thermostat.
2017 with 63k miles. Taken to dealer and GM offered no assistance. Powertrain warranty ran out at 60k
