Don't think for one second that these "stakeholders" around Marion haven't been wining and dining politicians, inviting them on Gucci duck hunts, let them use their beach houses, supplying them with sports tickets, etc. A lot of times the politicians have nothing at stake but they get some mad perks for helping them out.

I look forward to any input here and at public meetings for the stakeholders surrounding the lake. If they do not want it I will not pursue it.

You need to call the governor. That is not his plan. We need to stop all initiatives through the Commerce Dept. Start by telling all the folks in the building industry and it's suppliers to find a new job. Be sure to let Timberman22 that he needs to do something else.

Of course they do. By stakeholders I mean the developers how are sitting there drooling to start construction like the group in a previous post. They already have their plans laid out. They have tried to make it happen before but understand that they lake as current is not attractive for recreational boaters. Get it cleaned up and here we go!

This is a perfect example of an issue I have with you. He is voicing a common opinion, and you go straight to hyperbole. Of course no one wants to stop all building, end the timber industry, and stop all commercial initiatives. That’s ridiculous and you know it. You use this tactic to nip any discussion that questions your position in the bud.

When I was a young kid my dad would drop me off in my 14 foot Jon boat and head back to the lake house. I’d drive all over that lake like a mad man and never had any issues. Bumped my lower unit some but just pushed it back down and kept going.I’d be glad to let duck tape or Bogster or whoever follow me so I can show them what to do if they don’t know or think it’s to dangerous.

I personally do not like the idea. I remember the days of the dead forest, and hate that Hugo wiped it out. But the lake is just as navigable now, as it was then. There is a navigable lane that is clearly marked, that runs the entire length of the lake. You can put in at Columbia, and run all the way to Charleston. Lake Marion is unique, and should remain so. As I said before, someone that isn't smart enough to not go hauling butt across unfamiliar waters, deserves any damage to their boat that they get.

And it is an easy day's travel. Not sure why we are being told that scooting from one side of the lake to the other is all of the sudden imperative enough to garner legislative attention...

I don't know anyone other than carpetbaggers or pontoon junkies that run that channel. That thing turns a 12 mile ride into a 30 mile ride. Most run straight down the orangeburg side or cut cross to stephens and run straight down tawcaw side.

I doubt that outboard motor mechanics would be in favor of it. That lake eats more props and lower units than a politician takes under the table money.

I've lived on or around Lake Marion for over 30 years and never once have I heard someone complain about the trees and stumps out in the open water. I'm one of those so called "stakeholders" who currently lives on the lake and I'm against removing the trees. Just because the trees were supposed to be removed 75+ years ago, before the war got in the way, doesn't mean it needs to happen now so a bunch peckerheads can pretend to gain some penis length by going wide open across the open water. I kind of enjoy the leisurely boat rides in the channel.

Some are claiming that it will get the congestion out of the coves but I would bet that no parent is going to take their kid(s) on a tube out there in that choppy ass water for very long. The only thing removing those trees is going to do allow people to get from point A to point B quicker. Slow down and smell the cormorant crap.

If what Bog says is true that there is no more room for development on the lake then why do it. The majority would have been pushing for it a long time ago if it were an issue.

DT can go buy a house on a lake that doesn't have any of his issues instead of trying to change Lake Marion to be something "he" wants.

So, should the state take all curves out of the roads?

I live in Branchville, and my parents are in Holly Hill. It takes me 40 minutes to get to their house, as the roads are now. If the state were to make a straight road between the two towns, it would cut my travel time by at least half.
