2018
I always enjoy reading everyone’s season recaps, and thought I’d provide a short one of my own.
This year in SC was very tough for me. The Good hunts were really good, but there were far too many days without gobbling or ever really being in the game. I struggled to learn the pattern of birds on a new lease, and with very little gobbling after flydown I don’t think I know much more than when I started. I had some great hunts with good friends, an awesome double with my dad, and had plenty of close calls. Nothing more needs to be said about the anomaly that was the 2018 SC season other than to say that I turned on my thermacell twice all season. That’s just crazy.
I made it out to TX with a great group, including two TX virgins who had a ball. The hatches and populations can vary wildly out there, and there were very few young birds. If the 14 we killed, only 1 was a 2 year old. I don’t care if they are Rios or not, hunting 4+ year old gobblers is hard. We had to work very hard to earn some success.
A group of 4 of us arrived home from out west last night from a trip that can only be described as a massacre. Things fell into place, and the only thing that preserved a few was some tough weather. It was my first time hunting these places, and it will not be my last. A member here was vital to our success, and I’m forever grateful.
I’m tired and can’t wait to put my crap away and try to get back to normal tomorrow morning. I hope all of you had a safe season and got to do it the way you enjoy doing it.
Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him
He ain't wrong, he's just different, and his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right
They don't put Championship rings on smooth hands
