My pa in law found some metal ones that are like the old ones. I agree with your assessment.
I’d spill less gas using a colander.
They sell the metal ones at Granger. They seem pricey but I went to buy a one gallon plastic bullshit gas can from Ace and it was $20. History tells me the nozzle will break by the second use. So I’m getting some metal ones.
When they first came out I looked for some replacement nozzles and couldn't find any. But I saw one in Ace the other day and picked it up. Haven't even checked to see if it fits. But I have a couple different ones to try it on.
But just go ahead and buy the racing fuel cans. I paid $30 and they are much better than the $20 cans. Mine says VP racing on it, I think. I'll take a picture.
ETA a pic. They come in different colors. They were out of yellow so I went with white.

Pretty steep for a gas can but they work. If you really need camo, they have a DU and Mossy Oak option that is absolutely pointless. The Yeti of gas cans.

I've used 2 older model replacement spouts, and both leak like hell.
May try something more recent and see if they get a good deal. I've got 1 race can and 1 metal "safety can", but I have 4 plastic ones that are not worth a shot since the gaskets don't seal correctly.

I always buy the Eagle metal cans from Lowe's ... Have had a couple for over 5 years, no issues at all except cracking the yellow plastic nozzle, but it still works.

The 6 gallon VP is hard to beat for speed and ease of use.
Cottontop told y'all how to solve the problem with the new gas cans, then someone axed him. Poor feller was just trying to help people out, but got no respect.
I bet most of y'all even forgot to rake your paths clean to your favorite turkey hunting spots, since he hasn't been around to remind y'all.

I've bought some of the replacement nozzles and they are different pitch threads than the plastic can.
