Default Tiller Handle on 40HP Johnson

Has anyone had any problems with the throttle being real tight on this motor?? My throttle is so tight, that I have to turn it back down just as if I was tring to Run wide open. Does anyone know how the throttle can be adjusted or does it have to be replaced? In alot a boat traffic this can make for a very ride, if you know what I mean!!

There is plenty of adjustment on those motors. Most of the time they just need a little lubrication though. If you are facing the front of the motor look over on the left side and twist the throttle. Watch the linkage move and folloe it out to were the cable attaches to it and you will find a collar that is threaded at the end of the cable. You can adjust the basic cable tension there without having to worry about messing up the throttle postion.

mine had a little "friction dial" on the arm that worked to loosen or tighten the throttle
