    Default 1903 Springfield

I have gone absolutely batshit crazy over gun projects this year.

I have a '03 A1 that I want to sporterize and shoot a coupla sookies with. The bore looks mirror clean, but other than that I don't know what to look for. I haven't shot it in 15 years, but I think it shot pretty straight. Other than going out and burning some rounds to check accuracy and seeing if it is worth sinking some project money into, what else do I need to look for to ensure this is a viable project?

Don't DARE screw up a collectors piece by sporterizing it. You have an $800 rifle, that you will spend another $800 on and turn it into a $300 rifle. My dad has an old Pre-64 M94 that someone turned into a $50 rifle by screwing with it. Sporterizing 1903's was popular in the 50's and 60's when they were a dime a dozen but NOT NOW!!!!!!!!! For goodness sakes, if you want a project, buy an old (look for the peep sight screws) M-700 from a pawn shop and build on it.

If it ain\'t accurate at long distance, then the fact that it is flat shooting is meaningless.

I wish I could find a reasonably priced long action Remington 700 or two to build on. Something with a screwed up bore and a stock that has been busted. Got some projects brewing in my mind....
