    I've heard of painting the bottom 3' or so of the tree with some thick oil based paint with a few handfuls of sand mixed it. I'm sure roofing tar or some other nasty brush applied stuff would work as well. Never done it, so take it with a grain of salt.

    there is no getting rid of them. Probably killed 50 or so out of one pond system. The bastards just keep coming.

    Head of cabbage soaked in antifreeze placed around the tree.
