This past week while sitting, I had a doe come from behind me and walk right under my stand. I noticed as she got closer something appeared to be in her mouth. Once she got about 20 yards away, she started feeding in the food plot towards me. I got a good look at her and noticed both her cheeks were very swollen.
She was a smaller doe so I passed on her and afterwards looked up what it could have been. On to the inner web and I found the case of lumpy jaw and the causes behind it. My question is I see in cattle they have treatments to correct it, but see nothing about fatalities. In regards to food impaction, is his something that will was to this deers death or will she be able to overcome this?
I had another 20 yard encounter with her this morning on another stand and thought about taking her. Just wondering what the local, knowledgeable, know-it-all, expert or biologist has to say about this.
Thanks.
