You ought to see my collection. A buddy of mine used to call me "stump lighterd bandit" I will get one from anywhere. I've pulled them up with tractors, 4wheelers and trucks. I don't just cut the top out. I want the whole thing

Yeah I wish I had a way to get these out. Was getting what I could with a machete.

The best are whole logs that can be cut into 16" blocks...... Splits so pretty!

When I was a kid a lot of people used coal or wood for heat. I used to sell fat lighter all the time. I'd cut it into splinters and tie a bundle up with baling wire and sell it to stores. Sometimes I'd trade it at Mr. Dilly's store for shotgun shells. Mr. Dillashaw would give me 3 shells per bundle.

What's the best way to cut the really big pieces? I know I tried to cut a big step one time with a chainsaw and that didn't work out so well

Just 18" of a 20' log we found behind the house. I bet there is 2-3 cords of fat lighter at granddaddys under the wood shed. Most all the family logged for at some point.

I've got a couple 10" dia. x10' logs at the base camp. There are a few more logs scattered around the property that I'll drag up when those are used up.

I cut a 8-10 inch section and split it with a hatchet as needed. Something always makes me take a smell of fresh cut fat lighter.

When I was a kid in the sixties, my Popoo had a country store, and we sold a lot of it. We always called it "kindling." I've really never heard it called lighter before. This was in Fountain Inn. Most folks kept a fire in the fireplace and used a lot of coal like Mergie said. The kindling was magic to me, and would start a fire right up!! Hi-Gear

It's amazing how much upity stores sell it for. Saw a little handful bundle the other night for $12.99. If I could find a good market I would hire a messican to split it all day on a stump with a hatchet.
