    That made me smile. Was there anything unusual in the rails? Anything about 1/2 the size of the others? Something with a chicken-like bill?

    There were two different types. The bigger ones flushed further out while the smaller (about half or 75%) held or didn't fly at all. No noticeable change in bills however. Will keep a closer eye out tomorrow am if you would like to elaborate.

    There are two smaller rails - sora and Virginia. A Virginia is like a small clapper - actually more like a small king rail. A sora has a short yellow bill. A Virginia would be a good bird. I think I've only killed one in 20 years but I don't hunt rail very often.
