I've beat, pried, cut, and scraped with this thing. I've used it for about 10 years, and finally retired it for a OTF D/E Microtech. Having said that, I prefered the Benchmade more, and may just switch back. I always feel suspect when I flick the switch on the Microtech. There are so many ill-conceived notions about switchblades...
Anyway, if you want a great knife that'll last years and offer free lifetime service, then I highly suggest the Benchmade:

If you don't mind a year or two wait, Hank Hammond in Georgia makes a great knife. He is GoDogs57 on the GON forum.
If you want an automatic it's hard to go wrong with Benchmade. Look up the H&K Entourage which is a Benchmade knife with the H&K logo on it. Benchmade makes the knife, warranties it and it can be had for just over $100 online. Great value, I got my Dad one last year because he has bad arthritis and other hand related issues, it quickly became his favorite blade.

Common sense is not a gift. It's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone else who doesn't have it.
I recently picked up one of these, super tight......the nicest assisted opener I've had. And great price.

Spyderco bushcraft is a good solid knife but a little pricey.

I had Benchmade auto and it wouldn't hold an edge very well. I now carry a Kershaw Ken Onion Scallion. Aside from having better metal in the blade, it's legal but still opens like an auto. The thing that makes it legal in this state is that there is not a separate button to activate it. You push on a tab that is part of the blade. Why on Earth are automatic knives illegal in the first place?
