    Default Gigging Help

Aight so Im going to give it a whirl Labor Day weekend. I just bought a gig that Im pretty sure would pole a cruise ship. We were going down to Edisto but plans have changed and we are going to Garden City won last time before the inlaws sell the beach house.

Just looking for some general info on what to do. Probably just gonna go get a couple of those clamp lights. I'm guessing i need to do it when the water is fairly low and clear??? Let the tide do most of the work as far as pushing the boat or use the trolling motor? Creeks or main water?

Any help will be much appreciated

Use your trolling motor, no generator, DO Not gig within 100 yds. of the south jetty.

I don't like to trust the barbs on a gig. I pin the fish to the bottom and maneuver the boat close enough that I can reach under the fish and lift him in, particularly on big fish. The water will be too muddy to see at that point so be careful and don't stick your finger in his mouth.

Aim for the head, not the middle of the fillets.

The ones I have in Columbia are 110V though. They clamp on, go underwater and work great. I have three and they are sealed, bright and ready to go.

Illegal to gig within 100 yds of the S jetty or it used to be, may have changed.

look for live oyster banks. You can gig the fall, but the closer to lower the better.
