13 (or so)dove breasts and put them in a big deep frying pan and cover with water and half a can of chicken broth. Cook for an hour and remove.

Add a half onion - sliced
    3 sticks of celery chopped
1/2 lb of smoked sausage sliced lengthwise and then in 1/4 inch pieces.
Bring the pot to a boil again and cover for 10 minutes. Add a little salt and pepper.

While the above is cooking, pull all the meat from the bones and add it to the pot. Add about 2 cups of sliced mushrooms and stir - let simmer for 4 minutes on medium.

Add two bags of "boil in bag" rice to the pot and push the bags to the bottom where the liquid is. Cover and cook on med for about 10 minutes.

Cut open the bags and mix them in with all the goodies in the pot. Cover and simmer until most of the liquid is absorbed/evaporated.

    ENJOY...

Anytime you want to invite us over for this would be great. I will bring the rice before Omgitsapintail plants it.

can you replace the doves with blue heron breasts?
Well, I\'m not a gynecologist but I\'ll take a look.

Not sure, but dont waste your time trying it with a bald eagle, tougher than show leather.

I am doing this tonight. I only have 12 birds in a bag so I will have to use blue heron for the 13th.

I take my first bite and I broke off a part of a molar on a piece of shot. Probably that steel crap I tried. Dr Gunter's work is wearing out. My dentist is out with his wife and 2th ain't home.

This is the best doves I have fixed. Screw that bacon crap.

I'm telling ya... I love to fry them and cook in gravy for a couple of hours and put them over grits; but the purlow is better.

Sushi, this is, no kidding, the best dove dish I have ever fixed. I put in more of everything than I needed. The rice took 3 large bags to soak up the water. And for the rice, I went ahead and broke the bags open and poured it in. It is a friggin shame I couldn't eat it all. The muchrooms were a great touch. I did use garlic salt vs. plain old NaCl. Pheasant may have been better than blue heron. A little fishy.

I got a hold of my dentist. Great drugs.

Yeah, the water/broth level is the only varible. You want to have just enough to cook the rice bags with NO liquid left over.

I just wish I had more doves...
