Yes but did it get included in the budget

Rode the Cuddo unit today and was saddened. All open fields that I remember seeing ducks and geese dry feed in as a kid have been planted in pines. Looks like it was done in the last couple days too. Also saw 11 big pigs and 16 little squelers (maybe 15 lbs a price). Saw about 80-100 greenwings and 9 gadwall.

Skybusting, or the art of trying to magically propel steel shot 100 yards into the air at a passing duck, is a sure-fire way to ruin your own chances, and everyone else’s chances, at actually killing a duck.
Sad. Glad I got to see it in the PRIME.

Planted pine trees? That is exactly what our state needs more of.... Thank God that we have those guys looking out for the best interest of our states waterfowl. I think they can't take seed because it's some law that says they can't plant any type of genetically modified seed on federal land. Sooooo that's another reason to ride over there and tell them how stupid they are. I am sure it would make a difference. Santee cooper needs to take back every acre that they let the Feds use and let the state try to make something happen.

State duck stamp dollars could fund it, right? That makes me think, when the hell are we gonna get a SC duck stamp increase? We're long overdue for the price of the stamp to catch up with the times. It's been $5.50 for how many decades now?

OOOOOOOOOOOOR, we could quit sending so much money to other areas of the country that do nothing but better the situation in other flyways....flyways that are swarming with ducks.
I'm all for DU and what they have done for the prairie pot hole region. I'm happy that they have financially helped with a handful of in-state projects.
I'm glad about that.
Delta as well.
BUT, we send exorbitant amount of money out that will never benefit South Carolina directly. The monies coming in from the other 3 flyways, and other states can probably do ok with a little less coming from tiny SC.
If an organization would focus on the betterment of SC's public and private waterfowl, we would turn the page.
15,000 members rant and rave on this forum about all things duck, but I can barely get 300 of you to even send in a cookie cutter email (that I've typed up with a link to send) to SCDNR, the APMC, your legislators, etc.
It's fun as hell to put on bean boots, a drake jacket, and wax poetic about all the greenheads you've killed, for 40 bucks and free beer, but you aren't doing a damn thing to help SC or likely even the Atlantic flyway.
Get off your asses.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
I agree with you to some degree, but as it stands now, DU does more for SC than anyone else. A local organization that focuses on SC would probably do wonders for our waterfowl much like the California Waterfowl association does there on a local level. While hats a nice thought, DU is the only organization helping SC until some enterprising hunters stop whining, and take the initiative to better our situation.
We do need a voice. My point was that SC's duck stamp money stays in state right? Some of that could be allocated to plant/manage the SNWR. Of course if that long overdue rates increases like it should have Mr. Sanford was guvnah, there'd be more to work with.
Buck, Delta has done immense amount of work for SC's birds and the Atlantic Flyway (PEI, Nova Scotia, etc.). But there isn't a sign at a local impoundment for eyes to see, so the masses will likely remain none the wiser.

I don't think you gonna see state funds go to a federal project Willieworm. It is a shame all the WILD Mallards that place USE to hold is no longer.

Exactly! It really is entertainment to see some people on here who say they give no money to DU or Delta, but still complain about duck numbers, lack of opportunity, etc... If they don't contribute to an organization that helps the sport, then they shouldn't take part.

Last night, way home from out west counted 15 trucks from SC with SC tags all headed back from west fully loaded down, atvs, rtvs and boats.
Count was done on my drive leg, once I hit interstate 20 in Ga then to I 26 to home. Trucks werent counted twice.
Btw whoever owns the White Chevy with the 1854 Prodigy and GTR, I coulda used that rig, very nice set up.
15 trucks X average of 3 per truck ( Hard to count, heads laying everywhere drooling) best I could tell = 45 hunters.
45 hunters X conservative avg of 1000 dollars spent, most less , some a lot lot more = $45,000
I would think my sampling of only 6 hours and a one day count, represents conservatively about 2 percent of the actual trips made by SC duck hunters headed west this season blah blah blah.
This would represent a staggering 2,250,00 dollar economic loss to SC from monies earned here in SC and spent out of state. Yes that is 2 million plus dollars lost to SC. My point is this, we have all the needed ingredients to keep the SC hunters right here safely at home and the money spent with local business.......if we only had the proper management of our waterfowl habitat.
My opine and pure spekalayshuin.
OUT.
