That is one bird I've never hunted and would love to put my little Boykin on. As luck would have it we may get the chance this year.
    Nice pic Jab.

BTW: with all them "naughts"(sp?) you posted Jethro Clampet would be proud.

I tried it one time. I took one of my old yeller labs up above Walhalla a couple of years after they had that big burn up there. There was snow on the ground that day so I thought it would be a good chance for the dog to flush a few for me. He'd been working woodcock for years and was good as trailing and flushing them. I will never do that again, them mountains and ravines will kill a man and his dog! I ain't never been so tried in my life, even the dang dog laid down on me and quit for a while till he rested up some. I promised him if we ever got out of that valley and back up to the truck I'd never put him in those hills again. Didn't find a single grouse either. If I go again it's gonna be in some nice flat old apple orchard.

    JABIII,
Far be it for me to give anyone advice, but I almost always shoot in Aperture Priority mode (Av).

Here's a very active on-line forum where you can learn as much as you can stand:

If you don't already have one, a good EXIF viewer will allow you to study photos of others to see their camera settings. I use the freeware version of Opanda:

Thanks, RH. I will definately be checking that site out. There are no less than 4 buttons on the lens and 20 on the camera, none of which do I know what they do. Can't wait to get a chance to sit down and read some instructions and how-to's...

I took my Canadians up to the Parkway this morning to see the Black Balsams, Graveyard Fields, etc and had hoped to get some good pics. It was just too hazy and I missed a good chance at a raven. I did find a turkle up at 6000 feet with a butterfly trying to get some breakfast off the color in his shell...

    I don't think I'd pick him up - it's got a head like a rattlesnake.

He did look a little snapish for a box turkle. The real snappers should be crawling pretty soon and I hope to have some images for your perusal soon.

I like box turtles pretty little critters...that one is a male correct?

Males usually have the red eyes...and an indentation on the bottoms of their shells to the dome of the female's shell will fit so they wont fall off.
