Default Sooooo I shoot a deer last night......

And I have the wife and kid with me. Looked and felt like a good shot and i thought I thought I heard the deer lay down. The little one wanted to stay in the truck while we tracked because she got cold. Long story short the wife talked me into leaving it overnight although the blood was pretty good. Went back early this morning and walked straight to her not 15 yards from where we stopped. Don't know how in the world we did not see it. Took it to the processor and they turned me away because I left the deer overnight. It got down to 45 last night and I was always told that it was OK. Took it to another processor and he said it was probably OK but he would know in a few days when he went to cut it. He said the meat would definitely smell different if it was bad. Double lunged with no gut ruptures. What do you think? Wife feels pretty bad today for rushing me and promised she would not do that again.....hopefully it's still good cause we could def use the meat!

I hit one once that I didn't find until the next morning. Very cold that night (twenties) but processor told me the meat was no good. I really think that's ridiculous.

I have left quite a few either overnight, or until late in the afternoon before recovering them. I am much more worried about bumping a live deer than I am having one spoil because I waited too long.

Yep, most likely they just don't want it to get out they are throwing everyone's deer together in a batch and processing.

I've always wanted temps to be below 42 to leave them overnight and still eat them. I suppose thats because most coolers are kept in that temp range.

Next time, don't tell them you left it over night.

I let one sit in the truck all day yesterday and took it to processor after my hunt last night and he said would be fine. My question is with the youth day will all the processors be turning them away too?
