Of course you should have a UPS that is the price of poker, but if you think that the power supplies are the same and the power requirements are the same for PCs vs Mac then you may be misguided. BTW, I don't consider replacing a motherboard on a computer as the same computer. That would be like having a favorite axe that you have replaced the head on twice because you like it so much, you may like it but it is not the same axe. MG

Do what I did...figure out what you want and what you want it to do, then go here...

    http://www.newegg.com/

...order all your parts and build your own. There's nothing to it, bout like Leggos, everything snaps in place, then you load the OS that you want on it. Seriously, it's about that easy.

I built this one almost 2 years ago and I ain't had one single problem with it. I didn't max it out like I would have a gaming PC. But I built it plenty fast for what I use it for. I bought an ASUS case, put a fast Intel CPU and a good video card in it and added plenty of RAM, which had gotten crazy cheap. When I was finished I only had $800 (not counting the monitor) in it. If I'd bought a comparable one pre-built it would have cost me at least $1200, maybe more.

Plus I can stick my chest out and say I built it.

    BB,
Do you smoke around it while it's running?

Tobacco smoke will kill a computer. I've seen the inside of some that were in a smoking environment and they weren't pretty. A few other things that will kill them are hair spray and talcum powder. The cooling fan sucks that crap into the case and it clogs stuff up.

Do you run maintenance on them? De-frag, scan-disk, etc.
