    Default Back to Nebraska...

    Ite turkey poets..

Last 2 times I went to New-brask-ee, I witnessed bears and gators dying..

This time, hopefully Merriams and Rio Turkeys will die dead..

So for those who have chased these gamey fowl, what are some dos and don'ts...

Shipped our vests, boots, shells, decoys and blinds this morning..

Heard they gobbled all day? How difficult are they to kill? Are they mostly bushwhacked or shot gobbling and strutting?

This is one of the 3 things on this earth I don't know about.. So enlighten me..

    Thanks,

    Your Dad

They usually gobble all day. Alot of time the terrian makes it easy to spot them long distances away and then you can use the terrian to get close enough to call them in. We shoot most of them gobbling and strutting. Don't worry too much about the weather or the wind. The weather changes constantly and the wind blows about all the time, they are used to both and it doesn't bother them that bad. Shoot them in the face, they are usually pretty easy birds.

Phil, our team got in last night and 2 of us whacked off the roost. All I can tell you is that they are different. Easy like Sunday morning. You can call em in or bushwhack em. There are plenty to try both ways. Call loud and often. You will almost feel dirty for doin it. Gorgeous country and great people.

The birds are all weather dependent. Just bring a lot of shells.
Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him

An old joke. I normally get a stop in by my little cuz that Boozer hunts with. When they head up there for ducks and turkeys the guys up there love the stuff, and they cannot purchase it in their home state.

Also gonna be slightly rubberheadish and try out a new call..

    After a few birds die..

What you reckon they would do if I gobbled with "The haint" about 25 times?

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

    good luck, biz.

aint nothing "easy" about a rio. not sure where these other jokers hunt. hell, wasnt somebody bitching (on his was to the slam) about the "public land birds that are acting funny." turkeys act funny. use the terrain and be prepared for a lot of wind.

and ticks. an ASS of ticks.
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.

Haven't hunted in the corn state but in my experience the merriams run in to their death....Rios weren't quite as easy but they were a whole lot easier than our stubborn easterns here at home. The biggest challenge for me on the Rios was the high winds.

If you can kill easterns you can kill merriams and Rios with ease......unless your name is 2thDoc

    Good luck
