Dish/Hughes Internet

Pros/Cons? Service/reliability? Speed? Restrictions? I only have dialup out here in the sticks. I'm on a Verizon air card now and would like more speed and less $$$. Got a flyer in the mail the other day for 39.95 for 5 yrs with free equipment, installation etc.

Anybody got it or know anything about it? Let's hear it.

Yea.

We had dial up when we lived in Georgia. The missus saw just had to have hi-speed internets. Ordered Hughes Net. She called 48 hours after hook-up and cancelled and went back to dial up.

Also, the "free" install didn't cover the $150 the installer charged to put a post in my backyard to hand the dish.

Dish internet sucks in my opinion. We have it at the farm and have had a lot of issues in the past....had Hughes and have Wildblue for the last several years.

i'm on it right now at the farm. plain and simple, it sucks. they'll reel you in with a special price and then you'll have to pay out the ass for whenever something goes wrong with the dish, which it will. heavy rain, forget about getting online. speedwise, i can't really see where it's too much faster than dial-up. customer service really, really sucks. if we had any kind of decent cell phone service out here than that's the route i'd go.

It is the absolute last resort. We dont have phone lines or cable and the cell service is spotty. That is the only reason I have Wildblue.

I figured when the mailer mentioned U.S. Recovery Act and Stimulus Funds there was nothing in it for me.
