MCBEE, S.C. —
Update from SLED at 9:45 a.m.:

Modlin's vehicle has been found. SLED did not say where it was found.
SLED says he is now on foot.

A man who may be armed and dangerous is wanted in South Carolina for shooting and injuring an officer, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

SLED activated a Blue Alert on Friday morning.

"The purpose of the (Blue Alert) program is to broadcast critical information to the public as quickly as possible in an effort to assist in the apprehension of an offender(s) who allegedly killed, seriously injured, or abducted a law enforcement officer and poses a significant risk to the public and other law enforcement officers. The Chief of SLED shall act as the program's statewide coordinator," according to SLED.

SLED said Alston Modlin, 27, is wanted for shooting an officer during a traffic stop late Thursday night in McBee, South Carolina.

The Chesterfield County School District posted on Facebook that the shooting happened near the McBee High School Agricultural building.

"Rumors have been circulating that a shooting took place at McBee High School and those reports are false. The incident took place near the high school but was not related to McBee High School itself," the post said.

The officer is at the hospital being treated, SLED said.

SLED said Modlin may be armed and dangerous, and SLED is telling the public not to approach Modlin if they see him but to call 911.

SLED said Modlin may be driving a white 2023 Toyota Tacoma with a South Carolina license plate KRF 577. Officials said it has a LEER sticker on the back window.

He was last seen at 6:01 a.m. traveling westbound in Florence, South Carolina, SLED said.
