Lake Moultrie - Talk to me

Never been there, our gator tag zone includes it. I know zero about this area.
Was thinking about scouting it in a few weeks. What landing should I use coming from the Columbia area?
I am about to Google Earth it but any local intel where to launch and where to look
would be greatly appreciated, also want to look around Charleston area one day also.
Was thinking Bushy Park, but would like any feedback.

Russellville landing. It can be tricky with a strong southwest wind.

Will you have electronics on the boat? If so what brand and model?

Bushy Park is on the Cooper river

There have been some real giants killed out of Russellville in front of the Jungle but it's been hit hard. Same with the saltwater side of Bushy Park. The freshwater side of Bushy Park has a lot of alligators but the really big ones are few and far between.

This little guy used to follow my white 20' boat around like a puppy. I didn't understand at first then I realized he thought I was a crabber and he was looking for a hand out. I'm pretty certain someone killed him not long after this photo was taken...12' I heard.

Here is my advice as an amateur who was fortunate to fill my tag last year on Marion.

Go during the week M-Thursday. The big ones don’t get big by being stupid.

Binoculars and a trolling motor are your friend.

Don’t be impatient…..if it goes down, sit silent and wait it out.

Don’t be impatient…..if it goes down, sit silent and wait it out.

Yep. The first time they go down, they'll stay down for between 45 and 60 minutes. When they come back up glide over to them with the trolling motor - they'll go right back down. They'll only make 20-30 minutes this time. Four or five iterations and they'll only be able to stay down for a minute or two. They won't fight nearly as long either. Good luck.

Take a rifle. Shoot it in the head. Ride over to where it went down. Poke around with a pole until you feel it. Fish it up with a big hook, tag it, and go back to the landing.
