i think 3 seconds in basketball is stupid. two line passes in hockey. penalties in football, etc. offsides is just so simple and I have a hard time wanting to explain it to people that dont want to like soccer. go watch something else. let the rest of the world enjoy this because its pretty darn special.

    USA tonight....Huge game.
This is the best World Cup I've ever seen and I've watched most of the games over the past 4-5 world cups. The Argentina v. Cabo Verde game was phenomenal. The Mexico v. England game was great. Norway v. Brazil - stellar.

I've watched a lot of the talking pundents. I still think Balogun was red-worthy but I know I'm in the minority. I did have a copy of the FIFA rules at the house from when I got my D license to coach soccer but I looked it up on-line since I know FIFA has changed a few things.

FIFA really has a stink on their hands now after allowing Balogun to play tonight and the very similar situation with the Jarell Quansah red card last evening. Do you think that was red-worthy?

About the only way for the US to not sully their run if they advance into the quarterfinals is to just not play Balogun tonight. I doubt that will happen but I know it's part of the internal conversations.

Yellow Card, Red Card, Trump Card...it's about the only thing Trump's done that I disagree with...

Quansah was for sure red worthy. Came in spikes up.

Balogun foul I could see as a second yellow, but not a straight red.

The row your boat crowd beating Brazil was the best match.
England vs Mexico was ok. The penalty kicks suck, imho.

I know nothing about kickball and its rules.

My question is, has anybody ever appealed a penalty and won? If so, did they serve the penalty anyway?

Will it only “Sully“ the reputation of the US team is because our president‘s name is attached?

If so, I hope he scored five goals

I didn't say it would sully the reputation - it would sully the victory. It would always be talked about when this team is mentioned.

    Potato-Tomato

Has anybody ever won an appeal before? If so, did the player sit as not to Sully the next victory?

I saw somewhere that one of those one named fellas did arguably the same thing or worse, and received no penalty. Had he been redcarded, appealed, and won, I bet you a whole bushel basket of kick balls that he would be suited and booted for the next game.

If Belgium was concerned about the integrity of the game they'd have protested the card being given in the first place. They just want to play a lesser US team which imo is weak. Shouldn't you want to play and beat the best or is just about winning a blue ribbon even if it was the special olympics. Too many tricks and tactics to "win" in soccer that aren't related to competion and actually beating the opponent. Can't imagine Magic wanting Bird not to play.

Which is why offsides doesn't make sense. Your man got by you and you got beat to the ball. Can't have that now can we?
